What is an associate? Does it mean I have to be actively involved in this site?

"Associate" is just a fancy word for saying that your stuff is featured on our website as quality CSI fan work. You do not have any responsibilities to the site beyond that. Being an associate of Smiles Incorporated gives you privileges without responsibilities. Once you are an associate, privileges include:
    • Having your work featured on the site
    • The opportunity to scout out other quality work and invite them to become associates
    • The opportunity to apply for an officer position
    • The choice to join the mailing list

How do I become an associate?
As of June 2007, becoming an associate has never been easier. Whether or not you were invited by a current associate to join our community, all you need to do is visit our Submissions Section and fill out the appropriate forms there.

Are there any guidelines for submitting works?
Of course. This site is meant to feature quality work, which means that it has to have been carefully thought out and edited. If it's a story, for example, it should be grammatically correct and a completed story which has either been betaed or read through multiple times by the author. The officers will screen all submissions and not everything will be posted on the site. If your first few submissions are denied, you will get an explanation as to why. And it doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, so you shouldn't be discouraged from re-sending it later, or sending other works in for evaluation. In addition to the quality being good, the works must already be hosted at another site, for example:
    • FanFiction.Net or equivalent (for stories)
    • YouTube.Com or equivalent (for videos)
    • DeviantArt.Com or equivalent (for artwork-- this is optional)

As stated, artwork is the only thing that does not need to be hosted elsewhere. If you want to attatch the work to an e-mail, then it can just be uploaded here very easily.

Is there a limit to how many works I can submit?
Absolutely not. As an associate, you can submit as many works as you like at any time via e-mail. As this site grows, this system may expand to a simple form submission, but for now an e-mail will serve this purpose.

What do the officers do?
There are four officer positions besides CEO and they are Vice President, Fan Fiction Editor, Fan Art Editor and Fan Videos Editor. Officers control one aspect of the site respective to their title (one for fan fiction, one for fan art, and one for fan videos). They, along with Carly, decide on the content to be included at the site. When a submission is made by an associate, it is then forwarded to the respective Editor for approval. For example, when a fan art is submitted to Carly, she sends it to the Fan Art Editor for his/her opinion and they decide together whether or not to include it. The Vice President is alerted of all submissions regardless of classification and is the third (and sometimes deciding) vote on whether or not a work is included on the site.

How do I become an officer?
To become an officer, you must first be an associate, and then apply for the position by e-mailing Carly with a brief statement (three to five sentences) of why you want to be an officer OR you can simply visit our Submissions Page and fill out a form. Open officer positions are listed on the home page. Once you have become an officer, you will need to give Carly the e-mail address at which you would like to be reached (which is optional for associates) so that when an associate submits work for the section that you edit she can forward it to you for further inspection and your input.
